The stone-baked pizzas receive high marks for their crispy crust and generous toppings, while live performances add an enjoyable touch to the atmosphere. A few guests mentioned the temperature of the side dishes like chips and mushy peas, which at times weren’t as warm as expected. Some found it disappointing given the overall quality of the main dishes. Additionally, during peak times, such as Sunday afternoons, it becomes very crowded, making for a noisy dining experience that might detract from the casual atmosphere. As an over 18's venue, families with younger children cannot enjoy this space, which may limit some groups looking for a mixed-age outing. Lastly, while the prices are generally seen as reasonable, some diners wish there were more budget-friendly options on the menu.
Well back here again. First visit was very early in the year (2025) and added the review to the Almighty Cod. However, we ate in the Hidden Tap and the food is supplied by the adjoining chippy The Almighty Cod. Yet again we were not disappointed with the quality of food or service, and generous portions. This still rates as some of the best fish and chips I have eaten and would definitely recommend a fish supper if you are visiting. Also exceptional value, four meals and a drink each under £53.
I attended the Halloween Paint & Sip with two friends, and it was my first visit to The Hidden Tap despite being living in Hartlepool. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed, and Georgia—our server—went above and beyond to make the evening special. We all had pornstar mocktails, which were honestly better than any actual cocktail we’ve had elsewhere! The olives and pizzas were delicious too. I’ve already told friends and family about what a lovely night we had. Thank you, Georgia, for such wonderful service! Xx
We went as a group of three for their sip and paint Halloween session. Georgia who was our main server could not have been more friendly or accommodating. We had mocktails and couldn't believe how nice they were and were so impressed with how tasty the pizzas were. Cosy interiors... Definitely worth a visit and thank you for a lovely evening ☺️
3rd visit to this special little place. Best fish and chips I've have ever had, period! Fish is divine, thick pure white and succulent. Batter thin and crispy. My only gripe is that the chips and mushy peas were warm only. Plate was cool. Such a shame but it still warranted 5 stars as I started with 6!!
Whatever your choice! Whether it’s a stack of chicken nuggets or massive fish and chips the food is delicious and served with a wide selection of beers, wines and cocktails. An amazing transformation from what was here 3 or 4 years ago. Suitable for all and allows dogs.
I would like to thank all the staff in the Hidden Tap for ensuring me and my friends had the most wonderful afternoon when we attended for bottomless brunch to celebrate mine and my friends birthday. The service was fantastic, the food was delicious, and the cocktails were delightful! Would highly recommend to everyone! We will definitely be returning. Special shout out to Georgia for making us feel so welcome! Thank you all.
My wife and I popped in by chance and decided to have a meal. The fish and chips we ordered were delicious but we were really impressed with the staff. We’ll certainly be going back rather than the Almighty Cod (next door) from where the fish and chips came from.
